Muswell Hill shows strong community spirit

The local community at Muswell Hill won an important victory over indecent corporation policies.

The story goes as follows:

MuswellThe local Village Bar in Muswell Hill, which was particularly popular with young people from the area was closed last year. The license of the Village Bar was bought by the large chain JD Wetherspoon, which has pubs throughout North London. And the problems began. The company chose not to apply for a new license, but instead take over the one of the old Village Bar. This would allow the new Mossy Well pub, which would have been part of the JD Wetherspoon chain, to stay open up until 2 am. Despite the fact that according to the citizens of Muswell Hill, after the closure of the old Village Bar the anti-social behavior in their neighborhood drastically dropped, this would have been fine, but things did not stop with that. In addition to making use of the old license, JD Wetherspoon also applied for a permission to extend the permit for selling alcohol. If successful, this would have allowed them to start selling alcohol at 10 am, including on the basement floor of the pub.

It goes without saying that the citizens of Muswell Hill were not happy at all with this. Protests began. There were both meetings with representatives of the company, who according to the protesters were arrogant, resulting in turning the negotiations into a total waste of time, and appeals to the local council. Despite the fact that the protests that were aimed directly to JD Wetherspoon turned out to be a real failure, the council did their job well.

The council came out with the decision that the bar should be closed at 12 am at Sunday and 12:30 on Friday and Saturday. Thus the peace of the local community is going to be reserved and the residents of Muswell Hill have managed to prevent turning their neighborhood into something they have called “another Soho”.

Maybe not everyone in Muswell Hill is happy with the outcome of the situation. The incident however shows that there is one certain thing. Muswell Hill is a very well established community with a very strong spirit. Its citizens are ready to defend their rights at any cost and do not stop until the results that they desire are achieved. The quick reaction of the council shows that the administration stands beside the people, which is probably the most important thing in order to make one community a really nice place to live in. Overall, the recent years have shown that Muswell Hill is one of the nicest places in North London to live in. Here you can find everything you need – from professional and reliable cleaning services by Cleaning Services Finchley of a world class quality, to the peace and quiet of the traditional suburb, to a well established community that is ready to do what is right at any time. Muswell Hill is in short, one of the best places in London today.

The case against hard floors

Article by: Cleaners Finchley

Hard Floor CleaningThe battle between carpets and hard floors and which one of them is the better flooring solution is as old as the time when both flooring solutions began their co-existence. There is no conclusive answer to the question should you choose hard floors or carpets.

There is however a new study that brings very interesting results to the table. Up until now it was considered that carpets, even though far better looking than hard floors, are at the same time the more unhealthy flooring solution, because bacteria and mould easily build up in their fabrics, and are far harder to get cleaned. The abovementioned study however brings into question this age-old truth.

According to it, hard floors are indeed far worse for your allergies and asthma and if you or a member of your family suffers from asthma or any sort of allergy, you should avoid hard floors at any cost. Why is that?

The answer is simple. Let’s take the case with dust mites. It is not the dust mites themselves that cause the allergy reactions, but their faeces. They are very light and easily become airborne. If you have carpets however, and especially if they are well kept, regularly cleaned and treated with powerful enough steam carpet cleaning equipment any professional contractor can provide you with, the fabrics of the carpet themselves trap the allergens and prevent them from entering the atmosphere of your home. On the other hand, if you have hard floors in your home, there is nothing to stop the allergen to go everywhere – all that suffices is someone to walk over the infected area, or some wind to blow in the room due to an open door and there is nothing you can do. But that is something you will rarely read in the specialized articles on the question of allergens.
So the conclusion is very simple and very logical. In order to prevent complications of your allergies and asthma you do not need any miracle working flooring solution than neither looks better than your rugs, nor contributes to the positive balance of your budget. The thing you need to do is make sure that your carpets are properly kept and cleaned, so that they can act as a trap for allergens, preventing them from entering the air in the living room or bedroom in your home.

Again, despite the things you are used to reading or seeing on TV, carpets are very easy to be kept clean. All that you need to do is regularly vacuum them, avoid spills and stain and clean them the moment they occur and regularly – at least once every two-three months, have a heavy duty steam carpet cleaning machine clean treat the rugs in your home. You can either buy one for yourself – the market is overflowed with affordable solutions in that direction, or simply check online which the carpet cleaning contractors operating in your area are and give them a call for a quote. It is simple. It is easy. And it comes with guaranteed results.

Why you should avoid DIY carpet cleaning

Carpet CleaningCarpet cleaning is a very responsible job. When done properly it can greatly improve the condition of your flooring solution and let you enjoy it for a far longer period of time, because it will just prolong its life. So you should consider with great care the way you approach a carpet cleaning.

You will definitely be tempted to carry out your carpet cleaning as a do it yourself project. The reasons for that might be various – you might just enjoy doing the cleaning in your household by yourself, without any additional help from hired professionals. Or you might just find it as a way to reduce the expenses. In any case, you should be warned that improper carpet cleaning might permanently damage your carpets or simply do not provide the results that you have hoped for.

What are the things that you should look out for in order to avoid the unpleasant consequences of a do it yourself carpet cleaning job?

First of all, the preparation for the job – hiring a machine, getting cleaning products, loading them on your car, the very process of finding the proper equipment and the place to get it from, are very expensive and more importantly time consuming. Chances are that at the end of the day you will feel so exhausted that the last thing you would want to do is actually clean your carpets – and you will not do it properly.

Most carpet cleaning machines that you can hire from specialized retailers are small. There is of course a reason for that. The machine for hire should be small enough to be also easy to transport from one client to another using an ordinary car. But the small machine is also quite limited in terms of power and efficiency – again one point against tackling the project on your own instead of hiring professional carpet cleaners who are going to do the job in a quick and efficient manner, much quicker than you are ever going to be able to do it and on a very reasonable price.

You might come across ads for selling carpet cleaning machines that are both small and as efficient as the heavy duty professional ones. You should not fall for that purely marketing trick. If such machines really existed, cleaning companies like Carpet Cleaning Windsor would have been out of business long ago. And they are definitely not – actually there is an increased demand for their services in recent years.

If you attempt to clean the rugs and carpets in your home by your own, you are risking to miserably fail the task. Only few of the possible results include:

  • You will not be able to achieve any results of value.
  • Your carpets will remain damp for a couple of days, which comes with the logical and quite unpleasant smell.
  • The damp will also cause mold to build up.
  • Excessive moisture can cause your carpet to shrink.

So think again about doing your carpet cleaning on your own.
